The Salem Fresh/Soph came away with a pair of wins at Carlyle last night. The Sophomores improved to 3-0 on the season after an exciting 44-43 victory. Salem trailed by 13 in the 2nd half, but fought their way back. But after a furious comeback, Salem trailed by 1 in the game’s final seconds. Clark was fouled with no-time left on the clock and calmly buried both free throws to send Salem home with the win. Eli Baker led the way with 16, Payton Gullion added 9 and Clark finished with 7, none bigger than the final 2.
The Salem freshmen pulled away after a tight first quarter that saw them trail 8-6, they turned it around and led 24-14 at halftime and 38-22 after three on their way to the 45-27 blowout victory. Payton Gullion led the freshmen with 10 points and 4 blocked shots. Marquis Ettress finished with 9 and Avery Gullion had 6 in the balanced attack that saw 8 Cats score. The Salem fresh/soph return to action tomorrow with a trip to Flora.
