A 55-year-old former area resident has died as a result of injuries sustained in a two vehicle crash Wednesday morning on I-57 south of milepost 68 north of Benton in Franklin County.

State Police say preliminary information indicates a vehicle driven by 55-year-old John Hogan of Tunnel Hill and formerly of Salem and Alma was northbound when it began changing from the left to right lane and struck the front driver side of a vehicle driven by 58-year-old Everett Leslie of Benton. After impact, Hogan lost control of his vehicle and it traveled down a slope and impacted the ground.

Hogan was transported to an area hospital where he passed away from his injuries. A passenger in his car, 28-year-old Lucas Hogan of Tunnel Hill, was not injured. Leslie also escaped injury.

The crash closed the northbound lanes of the Interstate for several hours. It occurred at 10:10 Wednesday morning.
