Woodlawn Freshman Koch’s Season Ends At Sectionals
Woodlawn Cardinals Freshman Zelena Koch’s freshman XC season came to a close today at The Benton Class 1A IHSA Sectional. She earned the right to compete today qualifying out of her regional but came up just short of qualifying for the IHSA State Meet today.
On a miserable day with pouring down rain, cold, and sloppy muddy course conditions she fought hard and gave it her all finishing 36th place (20:32) out of 112 total runners at the Benton Class 1A Sectional this morning. The last qualifying spot was 27th (19:58). So she was just :34 seconds away from making State as a freshman.
Dad and coach Tim Koch added, “She will be back and will qualify for State within the next 3 years if it is in Gods plans for her! Hard work and determination will take her there! She had an amazing freshman season winning a meet at Belleville and medaling in almost every meet she raced in! I’m very proud of her and the future for her in this sport looks very promising! Watch out for her in the distance events in track this spring!”
