The SIJHSAA State Cross Country Meets were held on Saturday at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.
In Class S, the Selmaville girls were 2nd. Karmen Muuray led the way finishing 9th, Carly Veach 13, Gabby Harper 19, Shelby Johnson 41 and Gia Ward 59. Aviston won the girls state title followed by the Lady Rockets and then New Horizon was 14th led by Katie Queen 51 Eilee Ashford 103, Paisley Meyer 115, Ryleigh Hilgers 123, Saydee Edson 127 and Selah Veller 128.
Individually Jordy Hayes of Field was 10th, Scout Amason of Raccoon 21, Mt Vernon St Mary’s Liliana Grubb 38, Kinley Blair of Central City 39, Rome’s Audrey Schumm 75, Madalynn Wethington of Trinity St Mary’s 91.
Immaculate Conception Columbia was the boys Class S team champ followed by St Clare O’Fallon and Aviston 3rd. Rome was 7th, New Horizon 12th, Selmaville 13. Leading Rome was William Green 24, Brodie Phillips 38, Rylan Cravens 39, Waylan Garretson 45 and Titus Junkins 60.
New Horizon got a 13th place finish from Hunter Malekovic with Storm Ice 47 and Jai Edson 58, Cobie Green 74 and Asher Veller 84. Selmaville was led by Noah Gaston 15, Gavin Harper 51, Matt Blackburn 63, Ryder Lawson 68 and Rafe James 88.
Also in Class S, Kolton Cook of Central City was 26, Ethan Karch of Field 41, Archer Bechdoldt of Odin/Patoka was 56, Preston Kroening of Altamont Lutheran 77, Phillip Vankampen of Field 87 with Iuka’s Gibson Collins 90 and Will Vincent 100.
