The Salem Wildcats soccer team traveled to Olney for their 2a regional opener yesterday and played through terrible wet weather to pull off a 3-1 victory. Eli Baker, Caleb Purintun and Skylar Clark had the Salem goals. Keaton Gullion had a pair of assists and was fouled in the box that led to Baker’s penalty kick goal. The Cats will play in the Effingham Regional Semifinals on Wednesday against top-seed Triad.
Today in 2a regionals, Charleston plays the hosts at Danville, Jerseyville plays at Litchfield, Harrisburg and Marion will play at Wildcat Stadium in Marion.
In 1a boys soccer regional semifinals at Marquette, the hosts shutout Wood River 8-0 and Lebanon nipped Roxana 1-0. At Carlyle, Massac County was a 3-2 winner over Wesclin. At St Anthony, Hillsboro over Robinson 5-1, Columbia beat Metro East Lutheran 8-0 at Father McGivney, TTown over Pana 3-0 at Greenville while the host Comets beat Staunton 4-2.
Today in 1a play, Gibault and Mater Dei play at Carlyle, Newton and Altamont at St Anthony, Father McGivney hosts Maryville Christian, Murphysboro hosts Mt Carmel followed by Breese Central and Pinckneyville.
