The Freeburg Midgets kept their playoff hopes alive as they defended their home turf on Senior Night and beat the visiting Salem Wildcats 28-0. It was domination by the tailback/quarterback tandem of Tucker Murphy and Cole Stuart. They were the Midgets offense accounting for 387 of their 398 yards of offense. Murphy was the biggest contributor as he rushed 36 times for 230 yards and touchdown runs of 10, 39 and 8 yards out. Stuart had 157 yards on just 11 carries. In the game the Midgets rushing attack averaged over 8 yards per carry.
For the Cats offensively Sam Greene rushed 15 times for 59 yards but was sacked 6 times. Jeremiah Reinhart added 15 carries for 47 yards. Salem falls to 4-4 overall and will have to win at 6-2 Charleston next weekend to secure a playoff spot.
The Carlyle Indians won the inaugural Tomahawk Game Trophy over Wesclin as Dakota Rakers scored a 6-yard touchdown on the game’s final play to give Carlyle the 28-25.
