Wildcats Head To Freeburg With Trip To Playoffs On The Line

By WJBD Staff Oct 13, 2023 | 7:00 AM

The Salem Wildcats will play for their playoff lives on Friday night when they travel to Freeburg to take on the Midgets who will be in the same boat.  Both teams enter at 4-3 on the season with Salem’s Week 9 opponent significantly tougher in 5-2 Charleston, than Freeburg who will play 3-4 Waterloo in Week 9.

The winner tonight will also finish 3rd in the very tough Cahokia Conference Mississippi Division behind champion Roxana and runner up Breese Central.  The Cats defense will need to stop the Midgets who have scored 204 points on the year for an average of just over 29 points per game.  Salem is scoring 27 points per game while giving up 31.  The Midgets defense allows about 25.  So it’s a very close matchup with everything to play for.

The Gruesome Twosome, myself and Craig Holmes, will have the call Friday starting around 6:45 on 100.1 FM and WJBDradio.com.

Also Friday night in the Cahokia, Roxana will take a victory lap as they are 7-0 and host winless rival Wood River.  Breese Central will take their 5-2 record to 1-6 Columbia.

Throw the records out the window tonight as Evers Field will be the site for the game featuring the Orphans and Mount Vernon Rams.  Centralia knows they are out of the playoff picture with a 2-5 record, but they can try and keep the Rams from getting to 5 wins on their home turf.  Carbondale is 5-2 and will try to punch their ticket to the playoffs hosting 4-3 Marion who nobody likes to play this time of year.
