By WJBD Staff Oct 9, 2023 | 7:40 AM

After being rained out for Thursdays Pinckneyville Invite the Christ Our Rock Silver Stallion were back on the course today at the Benton Showcase Meet at Benton Community Park. Benton will also be the site for the upcoming IHSA Sectional Meet in less than a month.

The Lady Stallions set the tone in the first race of the morning running great races as both Sr. Sarah Mckowen and Jr. Rylee Brammeier would crack the Top 20 (receiving a meet T-shirt). Mckowen looked great today running a blistering time of 18:00 and finishing 4th, while Brammeier also had a very solid race finishing 17th overall(19:39). Both girls look to qualify for the IHSA state meet later in the month and with performances like today they will be on their way!

The Stallion Boys finished 6th place this morning out of 15 teams with scores and 20 represented. While there is work to be done to qualify as a team for the IHSA State meet later in the month, the boys are still putting in some strong times. Its going to take some soul searching and deep motivation to be in the Top 6 come sectionals but its obtainable with hard work, motivation and determination going forward. They will compete again Tuesday at Glen Carbon(Father Mcgivney High School) in The Gateway Metro Conference XC Meet.

The Stallions were lead today by an impressive performance by Sr. Elijah Gregory placing 4th in a time of 15:25. Jr. Zerek Koch was the #2 for the Stallions in 29th(16:58), Fr. Carson Pigg #3 35th place 17:33, Jr. Isaiah Lyons had his best race of the season just seconds behind Pigg in 37th(17:36) and Fr. Wyatt Gregory rounded out the scoring as the Stallions #5 runner in 63rd (18:39). Fr. Anderson Engele set a PR 19:17 finishing 73rd and So. Liagel Lyons was 105th 21:35.
