Friday around the southern part of the state was the junior high cross country regionals.
Franklin Park boys and girls both advanced from their regionals to next weekend’s State Meet in DuQuoin. Scout Puricelli was the boys individual champion.
Central City ran in their Class S regional. For the varsity girls, Kinley Blair was 7th and will advance to state. Not moving on was Kailee Easley who was 18th. Kolton Cook was 3rd and was the lone boy to advance. Also running were Trey Sloat 25th, Dayton Oller 28th, Braxton Bitter 29th, Drew Jack 32nd and Mike Sutton 34th. The Citians boys were 4th as a team.
Selmaville also hosted a Class S regional. The girls were 1st with a team score of 16! Karmen Murray, Gabby Harper, Carly Veach and Shelby Johnson went 1-4, Kenna Benjamin 6th and for good measure, Alana Howe 8th and Gia Ward 12th. New Horizon was 2nd.
New Horizon won the boys race with Selmaville also advancing to state finishing 2nd. Noah Gaston won the race with Gavin Harper 7th, Ryder Lawson 12th, Elijah De Rossett 15th and Rafe James 17.
Selmaville will compete in the OBC Meet on Wednesday at Lions Park in Central City. They will then run with New Horizon at the State Meet in DuQuoin next Saturday.
