By WJBD Staff Sep 25, 2023 | 7:16 AM
The Christ Our Rock Silver Stallions ran well The Freeburg Invitational Saturday morning at Smithton Village Park. It was a big meet and there were several 1A and 2A school. In total there were 31 schools represented.
In the Girls Varsity race Sr. Sarah McKowen ran very well continuing a great Senior season and XC career finishing 10th overall (20:18) and Jr. Rylee Brammeier had her best race of the season finishing 15th overall (20:56)! Woodlawn Freshman Zelena Koch also ran well finishing 32nd (21:38) and narrowly missing a medal (Top 30) by 2 spots and :02. There were 140 total girls Varsity runners.
The Stallion Boys came into the meet hoping to see where they would stand for the upcoming post season, as they would race many sectional schools this morning. The Stallions faired well finishing 9th overall out of 23 school with a team score and 31 school represented. But even better the Stallions were 4th out of the 1A schools. This is good news because the Top 6 schools will advance out of the IHSA Sectional to the IHSA State Meet later in October.
The Stallion boys were again lead by Sr. Elijah Gregory who continues to have a remarkable senior campaign. He finished 8th(16:25) out of the 193 runner field. Fr. Carson Pigg and Jr. Zerek Koch both had solid races today as well, despite just missing the medals they finished 36th(17:45) and 38th(17:54) helping the Stallions to a strong finish today. Fr. Wyatt Gregory really stepped it up today big time running #4 for The Stallions for the first time all season finishing 95th(19:23). Jr. Isaiah Lyons  was battling a knee injury but still fought hard to finish 110th(19:45) to round out the scoring for the Silver Stallions. Fr. Anderson Engele ran a stellar #6 in 110th place(20:38).
Coach Tim Koch told WJBD/WSIQ, “Overall I’m pleased with everyone’s performance today! Despite battling injury we still still finished in the Top 5 of 1A which is where we hope to be come the end of Sectionals!
