The Salem Wildcats got off to a great start leading 10th ranked Roxana 20-16 at the halftime break. But the Shells exploded for 4 touchdowns in the 3rd quarter as they pulled away to beat Salem 57-27. The Cats trailed 9-0 when they got a 7 yard touchdown run from Jeremiah Reinhart to make it 9-7. Salem would take the lead early in the 2nd quarter on a 30 yard pick-six by senior Connor Tennyson to make it 14-9. Salem then would take the lead to end the half with a 4 yard touchdown pass from Greene to Tennyson.
Reinhart finished with 17 carries for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns. Greene rushed 18 times for 85 yards. Tennyson caught 3 balls for 49 and Miking Ettress added 5 receptions for 47 yards. Lyric Black caught 3 balls for 22. Greene was 13-of-24 for 158 yards and a touchdown.
Evan Wells was just too much for the Cats as the tailback rushed 23 times for 145 yards and 5 touchdowns. Andrew Ellis added 3 more touchdowns on the ground as well. The Shells are 5-0, while Salem falls to 3-2 with a road trip to Breese Central next week.
Also in the Cahokia last night, Breese Central is 4-1 after a 49-0 win over Wood River and Freeburg kept Columbia winless with a 28-14 victory.
