Salem City Council Monday night to further discuss budget and look at zoning issues

The Salem City Council Monday night will be asked to give final approval to the city’s property tax levy for 2024.   The proposed increase is 2.4 percent and is under the amount the city could levy.  Mayor Nic Farley says the proposal would basically just capture new construction, with little or no increase in the city tax on existing property.

The council will be asked to approve a special use permit to Sheeler Rentals, LLC to locate a double-wide mobile home on a fixed foundation at 2154 Old Texas Lane.   The council will also consider a change in the zoning ordinance to allow offices in the B-4 Business Zone without the currently required special use permit.

Final approval is on the agenda for a revised city investment policy that is much more specific on the types of investments allowed than the brief past policy.

The council is being asked to set Trick or Treat night.

The meeting begins at six Monday night at Salem City Hall.
