Kaskaskia College President George Evans has been appointed to the Illinois Community College Board by Governor JB Pritzker. The appointment still needs confirmation by the Illinois Senate.
Evans will be the only college president on the board and is also looking forward to serving all the community colleges and to give Southern Illinois a voice.
“The biggest issue continues to be the untold stories of community colleges and our successes. I think you can go in to any of the 48 districts in the state and throw a stone and connect with a community college graduate. And I feel like there is still more for us to do not necessarily telling our successes but sharing the opportunities for individuals to attain that higher education degree or certificate without a ton of costs.”
Evans feels that will be more true than ever with the increased MAP grants that will pick up most of the cost of community college for low and many middle income students.
Evans is a graduate of Kaskaskia College himself, before going on to earn a Bachelor of Science from Southern Illinois University and Masters of Arts from Webster University. Evans was appointed interim KC President in November 2017 and become the college’s 11th President in June 2018. He first joined KC as an adjunct faculty member in 2008.
