The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an attempt on Saturday night to steal the ATM outside the First National Bank of Sandoval.
The department was initially alerted by a burglar alarm at the bank. A few off-duty sheriff’s department employees nearby were able to confirm the ATM had been ripped out of the ground, but the pickup truck involved sped from the scene before being able to steal the machine or the money inside.
The truck was later found abandoned on the Meridian Road west of Sandoval. The truck was registered back to a Salem resident. When Salem Police went to the owner’s home on South College Street, he didn’t realize his truck was gone and apparently had been stolen earlier.
So far no arrests have been made.
