The section of Meridian Road between Wisher Road and Gerrish Road has been closed until further notice.
Marion County Highway Engineer Mike McCormick says a three-span bridge over the East Fork of the Kaskaskia River had to be closed after a routine inspection found the timber pile supports failing.
McCormick says the Illinois Department of Transportation will look at the bridge on Monday to determine if it can be reopened with a weight limit if it can be reopened with a weight limit following repairs or if it will have to remain closed until it can be replaced. The bridge replacement project normally takes three to four years to complete.
Meridian Road is on the Marion and Clinton County Line. Any questions can be directed to either county highway department.
