Five people were charged with new felony charges in Marion County Court on Monday following arrests on Friday and over the weekend.
A 51-year-old Centralia man who said he was homeless had bond set at $20,000 after being formally charged with arson. Edwin Steinkamp is accused of setting a vacant home at 1124 South Hickory in Centralia on fire Friday morning. He was arrested a few blocks away after a witness to the fire reported Steinkamp had been in the area of the fire. He allegedly had a small torch in his pocket and smelled of smoke. If released on bond, Steinkamp was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim or neighbors.
51-year-old Jason Kelly of Airport Road in Salem was charged with felony disorderly conduct and aggravated assault. He is accused of making a false call to 9-1-1 and then allegedly threatening to execute an officer who responded to the call at his home. Bond was set at $3,000. If released on bond, Kelly was ordered to abstain from drugs and alcohol.
Bond was set at $10,000 for 27-year-old Shane Parker of South College in Salem after he was formally charged with unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle and burglary to the vehicle. Parker was arrested when found walking nearby after the alleged stolen pickup had run off the Racetrack Road. He is accused of a burglary to the truck before allegedly taking it from the 2300 block of Walnut Hill Road in rural Walnut Hill.
A 41-year-old Centralia man has been charged with possession of under five grams of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia following a Friday incident in Centralia. Robert Poe of West Kell later posted $210 cash bond and was released from jail. The public defender was appointed to represent him. If found guilty, Poe faces an extended term on the methamphetamine charge.
Bond was set at $15,000 for 65-year-old Paul Herron of North Sycamore in Centralia on a domestic battery charge. The charge was a felony due to a prior conviction. He is accused of grabbing the alleged victim by the mouth with his hand following a Friday altercation. The public defender was appointed to represent Herron.
