Jefferson County emergency response agencies and veterans gathered at overpasses on I-57 and I-64 Monday morning and displayed US flags as a remembrance of 9-11.

Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Bullard says the display of flags to passing motorists has been done for a number of years.   He says the event is the idea of the veterans support organization HOOAH Deer Hunting for Heroes.

When the flag display ended, all those participating were served lunch in the training room of the new Mt. Vernon Police Station to show appreciation for what they and their departments did during 9-11.

Among the organizations participating were the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Mt. Vernon Police, as well as Mt. Vernon, Jefferson County, Woodlawn, and Waltonville firemen.
