The Christ Our Rock Silver Stallion boys and girls were back on the course today at The Roger Lee Invitational at Dolan Lake in Mcleansboro, IL. It was a great day for both teams.
The JV boys race was first, where Freshman Anderson Engele and Soph. Liagel Lyons both cracked the top 15 with Engele finishing 13th(23:04) and Lyons 14th(23:45)!
Next was the Varsity Girls race where both Lady Stallions were coming of a spell of sickness and missed the previous race. Sr. Sarah McKowen was still not feeling well but fought through it and finished 4th(21:07). While Jr. Rylee Brammeier also ran well finishing 6th(22:02), she continues to run well in the 3rd mile!
The final race of the afternoon was the Boys Varsity Race where the Stallions put all 5 runners in the Top 15 and they all grabbed individual trophies. The Stallions finshed 2nd out of 14 teams represented by a narrow margin 46-41 to The Fairfield Mules.
Sr. Elijah Gregory was the race runner up finishing 2nd (17:15), Freshman Carson Pigg was 5th(18:08), Jr. Zerek Koch cracked the Top 10 in 10th place(19:39), Jr. Isaiah Lyons ran strong coming in 14th(20:31), and after falling on pavement in the first 100 meters of the race, freshman Wyatt Gregory fought back and had his best race of the season thus far finishing 15th(20:38) and grabbing the last individual trophy!
Coach Tim Koch told WJBD/WSIQ Sports, “it was a close race between the Stallions and Fairfield Mules and as in any sport it stings to not bring home the gold but I was really proud of the fight I saw in these boys! We will use this as motivation for the remainder of the season. This is our 2nd time on the young season finishing 2nd place but I know with hard work, dedication and motivation our day is coming to bring home the first place trophy or plaque!”
