The boys and girls cross country teams competed at the Granite City Invitational on Saturday in a meet stacked with class 3A teams and teams from MO.
In the girls race Breanna Thurman and Maci Thorsen battled each other across the finish line finishing a tenth of a second apart, Thurman 43rd at 20:54.5 and Thorsen 44th at 20:50.6. All the Salem girls improved their times from earlier in the week.
Hunter Malan ran number for the boys coming in 54th in a time of 16:25.3 out of 208 runners. He was followed by Robby Shober 16:45.9, Alex Spencer 17:36, Caiden Beer and Branson Pappas rounding out the top 5.
The Wildcats compete at Herrin today.
