An 18-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been charged with three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in Jefferson County Court following a weekend stabbing.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s officials say Bobby J.D. Berner was arrested following an investigation into a stabbing Saturday night in the area of North 11th and George Streets. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies and Mt. Vernon Police were initially called to a report of a fight in progress, involving weapons. The fighting had stopped by the time of their arrival, but they found two people with stab wounds apparently caused by a razor blade.
Both victims, whose names have not been released, were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Police believe the stabbing occurred when Berner intervened in a fight between his girlfriend and his mother.
