A 42-year-old Salem man has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty in Marion County Court to burglary and a petition to revoke his burglary in a prior burglary conviction.

Eric DeWitt of Robin Road admitted breaking into Merz Vault Company on Route 37 South in Salem in March of this year. A second count of theft of a pickup truck from the business was dropped. In addition to the six year prison term, DeWitt was also ordered to make $1,268 in restitution to Merz Vault. He’ll also have to complete one year of parole. DeWitt will get credit for time already served.

A second six year prison term to run concurrently with the first was handed down when he admitted to a petition to revoke his probation on an earlier burglary conviction where he entered a building on Short Road in rural Kell.
