After opening the season with an emotional 34-28 overtime win over rival Centralia, Salem will turn their focus this week to Alton Marquette who will be at Jim Finks Field on Friday night. Marquette lost their opening game of the year and was one of Salem’s 2 wins from a year ago. However, its a bit of a trap game with Salem traveling to Mt Zion next week and then opening up the Cahokia against Breese Central at home in Week 4.
The Centralia Orphans will open up their home schedule Friday against Collinsville who dropped their season opener on Saturday to Belleville East 24-21.
Breese Mater Dei edged Columbia 22-14, East St Louis fell to Chicago Mt Carmel 36-33, Wood River got shutout by Gateway, Missouri 42-0.
In other Saturday action, Dierre Hill Jr had a 77 yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the first quarter and a second quarter rushing TD from 34 yards out to lead Althoff over Burroughs, Missouri 49-13.
Marion beat Herrin 26-6, Mount Vernon outgunned Waterloo 55-41, and Trenton Wesclin beat Marshall 32-6.
