The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating a second suspicious fire to hit a mobile home in Wamac left vacant following a recent death.
Centralia Fire Protection District Chief Ross Boshera says the latest fire early Friday morning appears to have been set in a shed behind the mobile home and then spread to the already damaged mobile home at 300 Sanders Street. The mobile home had already been damaged in a July 27th fire. The Friday morning fire destroyed what remained of the home.
Boshera says the State Fire Marshal was already investigating the first fire and will now investigate this fire. He reports the shed and mobile home were fully engulfed when spotted by a Wamac patrolman around four Friday morning.
The fire also burned through the neighbor’s fence to the rear and burned some items in the backyard.
Due to the heat as the temperature was still 80 degrees at four Friday morning and other debris that had the potential to catch fire, he called Centralia City Firemen for mutual aid assistance.
Firemen were on the scene until about seven Friday morning.
