Conditions improved in this week’s crop report.
Temperatures were about average but it was wetter than normal this past week. Crop Statistician Mark Schleusener says soybeans were blooming on 93% of acres, which is ahead of the five year average.
“73% of acres were setting pods compared to 62% normally. Soybean conditions improved and were rated 14% very poor to poor, 28% fair and 58% good to excellent. The Illinois corn crop has reached the dough stage on 56% of acres as of Sunday. 1% of acres had reached the dense stage. The condition of the Illinois corn crop also improved and was rated 13% very poor to poor, 29% fair and 58% good to excellent.”
The second cutting of alfalfa is nearly complete and 43% of the third cutting is done. Average statewide topsoil moisture increased to 9% very short, 21% short, 59% adequate and 11% surplus.
