Marion County Fair Board President Doug Telford is pleased with this year’s county fair that wrapped up over the weekend.
Telford says once again this year there was great community support for both the grandstand events and the midway.
“We had a very good week. We started out with a lot of heat, and then we had the rain out for motocross, but rebounded very well and rest of the shows got in every night on time for full shows. Our group of board members worked hard all week and our community came out and supported. Very appreciative of all that. It’s been a good week and thank goodness we dodged a lot of bad weather that could of made things worse.”
Telford was also pleased to see exhibit building entries up more than 200 as well as a big jump in livestock numbers.
He says they now look forward to next year.
“Take a month or two to see what worked and what we need to improve on. We have a list of projects brought to our attention we could maybe do better with. So we will look at them and start on them as soon as we get a chance.”
The next event for the fair board is the Fall Demolition Derby which will be held the evening of the Little Egypt Festival on Saturday night, October 7th.
With the success of the first car and truck show on Saturday, the fair board is looking at making that not only an annual event with the fair but with an additional show sometime in the spring.
