A 33-year-old Salem man faces multiple charges after Effingham County Sheriff’s Deputies broke up a burglary in progress at the Beer Port in Edgewood early Tuesday morning.
Marcus Hicks of Hamilton Street was formally charged in Effingham County Court on Tuesday with burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal damage to property, and possession of a stolen vehicle. The bond was set at $75,000.
Hicks was allegedly in possession of a stolen car taken from a home in the 100 block of South Washington Street in Kinmundy. The owner of the vehicle was not even aware it was gone until being notified of its involvement in the burglary.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Department will be forwarding information to the Marion County State’s Attorney in connection with the theft of the vehicle. Sheriff Kevin Cripps said the car did not appear to have been damaged.
