An out of state semi truck driver escaped without serious injury when his rig ran off southbound I-57 at mile marker 111 just south of the Levy Road overpass early Tuesday morning.
Salem Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Bill Fulton says it appears the driver crossed the median into the northbound lanes and then continued into a wooded area on the east side of the Interstate. He reports the semi stayed upright and the driver was out before emergency help arrived.
The driver was checked on the scene by United Medical Response and refused hospital treatment.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Department also initially responded, with State Police later taking over the investigation.
The crash was reported around 5:20 Tuesday morning.
