One person has been arrested and another is being sought in the fatal shooting of a dog outside a Centralia home and the later discovery of cannabis plants growing inside the residence.

26-year-old Jarvis Brown who had been staying at the home in the 200 block of East 7th is being sought for aggravated discharge of a firearm, armed habitual criminal, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, and for animal cruelty.   He reportedly was beating up one of his dogs when it got into a fight with another dog and he fired a single shot and killed one of the dogs.   Brown reportedly went back into the home before leaving the area.

After receiving permission from the occupant of the home, 32-year-old Kelly Taylor-Schulte, to search for the weapon police allegedly found a gun and seven cannabis plants inside the closet of a room where Taylor Schulte’s children were staying.  It was not immediately clear if the gun was the one used in the shooting.

Taylor-Schulte was formally charged in Marion County Court on Monday with unauthorized production or possession of cannabis plants and endangering the life/health of a child.   During a juvenile court hearing on Tuesday, by agreement, her six children were taken into protective custody by DCFS pending any further court action.

Taylor-Schulte has been released on a $2,500 personal recognizance bond.

Anyone with information on Brown’s whereabouts is asked to contact Centralia Police at (618) 533-7602.   Police say Brown is currently on parole and had been told by family members to turn himself in.
