2023 07/15 – George Michael ‘Mike Register

George Michael “Mike” Register, age 73 of Salem, died on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana with his wife and children by his side.

Mike was born on September 24, 1949, in Moultrie, Georgia the son of George Bryan Register and Nancy Imogene (Clark) Register Cape. He married Lucinda (Phelps) Register on August 16, 1986, in Salem, IL and they enjoyed 36 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife Lucinda Register of Salem; children, Erika Register of Carlyle, Illinois, Amanda Jones and husband Ryan of St. Louis, Missouri, and Paul Register of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Brayden Register and Ryleigh Jones; and four sisters, Debbie, Resa, Tresa, and Krista.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mike graduated from Ribault Senior High School in Jacksonville, Florida.  After graduation, he attended Tennessee Technological University and graduated with his degree in Music Education and Voice.  He then attended the University of Illinois and graduated with his master’s in Conducting and Choral Literacy.  Mike spent his working career in music and retired as the Choral Director of both Salem Community High School and Kaskaskia College.

Mike had a love for BBQ sauce and had a vast collection from all over the world.  He loved to work in his yard and spend time sitting by the pool or going to the beach with his favorite book.

The family would like to invite all of Mike’s family and friends to a Commemoration of his life on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem which will begin promptly at 1:03 p.m.  The family asks that you please come prepared to share your memories and stories of Mike.  There will be a reception at the funeral home immediately following the time of sharing.   Memorial contributions can be made to a Music Scholarship Fund being set up in Mike’s name at Kaskaskia College (checks to Lucinda Register) and will be received at the funeral home.   Online condolences can be made at www.CrouseFH.com.
