A 53-year-old Iuka man has been sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty in Marion County Court to a grooming charge.
Joseph Morrison of Sycamore Street admitted to using a cell phone in September 2022 to seduce, solicit, lure or entice a child to engage in any unlawful sexual conduct. After getting out of prison, Morrison was ordered to serve up to one year of parole. He will get day for day credit for time already served.
Iuka Police and Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies handled the case. They say a group that monitors chat rooms on the internet picked up sexually related conversations Morrison was allegedly having and communicated with him as an 11-year-old girl. As the conversation went on, Morrison also reportedly began communication as his son as well. Morrison had allegedly invited the girl to his home during the conversations.
During the execution of a search warrant on Morrison’s home, electronic devices were allegedly seized. Another search warrant was issued for the electronic communications on the devices allegedly made between Morrison and the monitoring group.
