Salem’s Public Works Director Annette Sola says repairs will be made to the new picnic shelter on the southwest side of Bryan Memorial Park that sustained damage two different nights last weekend.
Sola says the city will also work to improve security in the area.
“They have now tore 3 benches out of the concrete and destroyed them. So we have reached out to the gentleman who made the table for us, he will be replacing the benches for us. Courtney made a call today to Security Alarm to add security cameras. Also going to look to add electricity across the creek and install a security light across the bridge.”
Sola says it appears those responsible for the damage kicked the connections of the benches until they came loose, then broke the benches to pieces and threw them into nearby Town Creek.
The new shelter has only recently been completed, replacing the old tee pee shelter that had developed structural problems.
