New Salem City Council Woman Tracy Crouch.

Salem’s new city council woman says she’s thankful, grateful, and excited to have won a seat on the council.

Tracy Crouch had to wait until Tuesday to get the results of the late vote by mail and absentee ballots to learn she had won the election by a single vote.

Crouch believes to change our government it has to be from the bottom up and average citizens like her have to get involved.

“I just wanted to instead of sitting back and talk about it to myself, I just wanted to stand up and take part in the process and representative a conservative Christian point of view on the City Council.”

And Crouch has set some priorities.

“I would like to do what I can to help bring more jobs to the area and also improve the aesthetics and community involvement.  And help the community feel pride in their hometown.”

This is Crouch’s first run for office and she admits she has a big learning curve but she is ready to get to work.

Crouch is an accountant at the Murray Developmental Center in Centralia and the former owner of Crew Cuts hair salon in Salem.   Crouch has lived in Salem the past 25 years after growing up in Mt. Vernon.  She replaces appointed council woman Amy Troutt who decided not to seek election.

Crouch along with re-elected city councilman Craig Morton will be sworn into office at the Salem City Council meeting on Monday, May 1st.
