The Salem Community High School Board will be doing some additional renovation work over the summer after receiving word they have received a $50,000 matching state maintenance grant.

Superintendent Dr. Brad Detering explains where the improvements will be made.

“The school district received the School Maintenance Grant for the replacement of the entire envelope of the business wing doors.  So that’s all 3 doors as well as the frame that goes above it.  And all the exterior doors will be repaired, sanded and painted because the remaining doors are in good enough shape they can be repaired and don’t have to be replaced.”

The board approved an amendment to their performance contracting agreement with Ameresco to complete the work.  The work is on top of a $2-million improvement project approved earlier for renovation of the cafeteria and serving line area.

The board hired Jackie (Armbrust) Malan as an English Teacher and Torin Wright as cheer coach for the coming school year.  Wright has been an assistant cheer coach for a number of years.  The board accepted the resignation of Saegan Phillips as Assistant Girls Track and Assistant Cross Country Coach.

The board congratulated the cast and crew of “Beauty and the Beast” for the spring musical.

A special meeting has been set for six pm on May first to reorganize the board following the school board election earlier this month.
