Salem City Council to consider adoption of 2024 Fiscal Year Budget

The Salem City Council Monday night will consider adopting the nearly 21-million dollar 2023-24 fiscal year budget.   A public hearing will start the meeting at six to allow for public comment before the budget comes up for adoption later in the meeting.

The council will be asked to enter into a lease and maintenance agreement with Enterprise Fleet Services to allow the city to move to the next step and focus on which vehicles would be reviewed for replacement by lease vehicles.

The council will consider options to replace damaged copper lines at the Salem Aquatics Center that had been left in the closed position over the winter allowing some water to remain in them and cause freezing damage over the winter.  The problem was discovered when Westport Pools service was at the Aquatics Center last week to set the pool up for filling for the season.   The council is being asked to take the higher priced option of $15,500 to replace the copper lines with PVC pipe to allow city staff to make future repairs.   City Manager Rex Barbee says time is of essence in getting repairs done to allow time to fill the pool and stay on target with the scheduled opening of the pool.
