Jefferson County Circuit Judge Jerry Crisel has sentenced a 31-year-old Woodlawn man to 80 years in prison for the 2021 murder of 34-year-old Jamarco Foulks of Mt. Vernon.
Jaquez Gardner received 70 years in prison for murder with an additional 10 years for Gardner being found guilty of being an armed habitual criminal. He was found guilty by a Jefferson County Jury that deliberated about two hours before returning the verdict last November.
Foulks died following a shooting incident at the Corner Tavern on South 19th Street in Mt. Vernon. Gardner had left the area after the shooting but was arrested later in the parking lot of an O’Fallon, Illinois motel and returned to Jefferson County where he remained in custody in lieu of $3-million bond since the time of the arrest.
