A 58-year-old Odin man has died in a two-vehicle crash early Thursday night on the Odin Road near the Lindell Road intersection south of Odin.

Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon says Jason Alsept was pronounced deceased by the emergency room physician at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.   Alsept died from multiple blunt force trauma from injuries sustained in the crash.

Sheriff’s Deputies say Alsept was traveling northbound on Odin Road at a high rate of speed when he ran into the rear of a pickup truck in front of him driven by 30-year-old Blake Schilling of Deadmond Road in Odin.

Odin Fire Chief Greg Smith said Alsept’s vehicle received heavy front-end damage and he had to be extricated from the vehicle.  Smith notes Alsept was unconscious and they were unable to start CPR until he was removed from the car.   He was then transported to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital.

Schilling indicated the car that later crashed into him had pulled to the side of the Odin Road earlier to allow him to pass.

Schilling declined hospital treatment.

The crash occurred at 7:23 Thursday night.  The Marion County Sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the crash.
