Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps says an arrest has been made in connection with a Saturday burglary to Merz Vault Company on Route 37 South of Salem.
Cripps says after the building was entered, an attempt was made to get into two vending machines that were pushed through a wall by a piece of equipment. He reports two portable heaters and power washers were then stolen along with a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck. The pickup was later recovered abandoned in Fayette County.
Cripps says deputies attempted to stop DeWitt for questioning in the case when he ran on Monday. While DeWitt got away, he reportedly dropped a back pack that had evidence that tied him to the Merz Vault Company.
Deputies then went to DeWitt’s home on Tuesday and he was taken into custody without incident.
DeWitt is being held for alleged burglary, felony theft of a vehicle, and felony criminal damage to property. He is also reportedly wanted for questioning in connection with incidents in Jefferson and Fayette Counties.
