The Centralia High School drama department this weekend is presenting the musical comedy 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee.
Director Jami Jacobs expanded the cast from 9 to 20 to accommodate all those who wanted to have roles in the play. She says another 11 are part of the crew.
Jacobs said, “It is quite an undertaking, there are so many costumes, so many props, so many different characters, I mean, there are very few kids on stage who aren’t playing 4, 5, or even 6 different characters.”
The show is the final for several cast members who have been involved in all or almost all of the productions throughout high school.
Zoey Dodd says the music and drama performances have been most of her life in high school but she will be attending the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in the fall as she looks to earn a degree in geology. While she will initially remain involved in music, she doesn’t rule out getting involved at some point again with theater.
Tyjhawn Matthews has been in six other productions and will be pursuing acting while attending Alabama State University.
Kaitlyn Bone has been involved in the drama performances all four years of high school and plans to pursue theater at Kaskaskia College in the fall.
The seniors were honored during the Saturday night performance. The final performance is a three pm matinee on Sunday.
