SSM Health Illinois is launching a new Volunteen program to provide high school students the opportunity to experience different departments in healthcare.
Students will be assigned to various areas within the hospital at either SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital – Mt. Vernon or SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Centralia. Students will be placed based on their career interests and include some of the following departments: pharmacy, emergency, sleep centers, patient floors, lab, imaging, environmental services, nutrition services, and more.
Director of Human Resources Kristi Sherrill says they are hopeful that the Volunteen program will provide a deep look into healthcare for students considering healthcare as a career. She notes the Volunteen program is also a great opportunity for students to volunteer and give back to their community.
The program will run from June 5th through July 14th. Students will be asked to volunteer 2-3 days a week for 4-hour shifts.
Students can apply online at ssmhealth.com/locations/illinois/volunteen-program or may call 618-899-1068 for more information.
