A Jefferson County Jury deliberated just 17 minutes before finding 23-year-old Treyaveon Massie of Evansville Indiana guilty of the first-degree murder of a resident of the Rolling Meadows Trailer Park south of Dix.
Massie was on trial for the shooting death last September of Cadias Jackson. Massey was found guilty of murder with a gun enhancement in a four-day trial that began last Tuesday and resulted in the guilty verdict being announced on Friday afternoon.
Prosecutors say Massie faces 45 years in prison to life when sentenced on May 18th.
After receiving a report of a shooting, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies found Jackson with multiple gunshot wounds. Both deputies and EMS provided care on the scene before Jackson was transported to Crossroads Community Hospital where he passed away from his injuries.
Massie and two others with him including 43-year-old Retha McIntire also of Evansville were later stopped in a van matching the one seen at the scene at Salem Road and North 11th in Mt. Vernon.
McIntire was also charged with three counts of murder under the accountability theory, while the second passenger was released without being charged. McIntire’s trial is currently set to begin on May 9th.
