A 35-year-old former Salem man has been sentenced to four years in prison for felony domestic battery.

Steven Schultz, who now has a Mattoon address, will serve the time concurrently with four year prison terms handed down earlier in Coles County Court at Charleston for domestic battery and unlawful restraint.  Once Schultz is out of prison, he’ll have to serve four years on parole.

Schultz admitted to striking the alleged victim of the domestic battery in the back of the head in a June 2021 incident.  The charge was a felony due to a prior domestic battery conviction.

As part of the plea, Schultz had charges of possession of under five grams of methamphetamine and felony theft dropped.
