Salem Police say one person was shot in the hand and another person has been arrested for aggravated domestic battery following a scuffle between two occupants of an apartment at the Salem Village Apartments on West Kell Street.
Police were alerted to the situation when Salem Township Hospital officials notified them that 20-year-old Eric Barham had been brought by private vehicle to the hospital for treatment of the hand injury.
The person who allegedly fired the gun, 19-year-old Landen McMinn, also known as Landen Williams, was later located at a relative’s home in Country Club Estates where he was taken into custody. He is currently being held in the Marion County Jail for aggravated domestic battery pending a decision on formal charges by the Marion County State’s Attorney’s office.
Police say they have recovered the weapon which was a small caliber pistol. The shot was apparently fired in what started as an argument, escalated to a physical fight, and then the firing of the gun.
Police believe Barham and McMinn were both living in the apartment, although their exact family relationship was not immediately known.
The shooting was reported by the hospital at 1:43 Thursday morning.
