A Jefferson County Jury deliberated about 20 minutes Wednesday afternoon before finding a 19-year-old Mt. Vernon man guilty of armed violence.
Jaylen Smith was arrested on the charge last December after he was allegedly found to be in possession of 1 to 15 grams of cocaine and possession of a stolen firearm by Mt. Vernon Police. He was also in violation of two bail bonds at the time of his arrest.
Smith will be sentenced on April 27th.
The case was prosecuted by Jefferson County Assistant State’s Attorney Blake Jennings.
