The National Weather Service is projecting two to three inches of rain to fall across most of South Central Illinois beginning early Friday morning and continuing into Friday evening.
The weather service says the system could contain some thunderstorms, mainly after four Friday morning. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Winds could gust as high as 30 miles per hour out of the northeast. The temperature will drop to 47 by daylight on Friday morning.
High on Friday will be 52. Winds will turn to the east, with gusts of 40 miles per hour on Friday. The rain is expected to move out after seven Friday night. Temperatures will fall to 33 by Saturday morning with breezy conditions.
The storm system could produce significant snowfall across parts of central and northern Illinois, but no snow is forecast locally.
Nicer conditions are expected for the weekend, with a sunny high of 52 on Saturday and more sunshine and a high of 55 on Sunday.
