For the second week in a row, no Illinois counties are rated at a high level for COVID-19 transmission.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports 20 counties, located all around the state, are at medium risk for the virus. That includes Jefferson and Wayne counties in South Central Illinois.

For those who do test positive, the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine has a new tele-health service.

Claffey says, “You can set up a tele-health appointment to determine if you need medical treatment if you have COVID-19. This makes it faster and easier for people to access treatment.”

The number to call is 217-545-5100.

Spokesperson Mike Claffey says it’s still important for people to be up to date on their vaccinations, especially if they are older or have an underlying condition.

Statewide, 11,248 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 along with 37 deaths were reported in Illinois for the week ending February 19th.   As of Thursday night, there were 959 individuals in Illinois in the hospital with COVID-19.  Of those, 108 were in the ICU and 41 patients were on ventilators.
