State Police have released some further details on a two-vehicle crash that shut down southbound traffic on I-57 south of Salem late Wednesday morning.

Preliminary information indicates that a vehicle driven by 30-year-old Janice Martinez of Holland, Michigan hit a car in front of her that had slowed or stopped entering a construction zone with just one lane traffic.

Martinez was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal transportation of liquor, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.   She was taken to the Marion County Jail where she was later given a notice to appear.

The driver of the second vehicle and a passenger in the Martinez vehicle, who are not identified by name, were both taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred at 11:16 Wednesday morning at milepost 111, five miles south of the Salem exit.
