A 31-year-old Centralia man has pleaded guilty to an aggravated battery charge with strangulation in exchange for three other charges filed in connection with a New Year’s Day incident being dropped.
Braulio Romero of South Sycamore was placed on two years probation, mental health, drug and alcohol evaluation with treatment, abstain from drugs and alcohol with random testing, and have no contact with the victim.
The charges dismissed included a Class X home invasion with injury, as well as felony criminal trespass to property with person present, and misdemeanor battery.
Centralia Police say Romero broke into an apartment at the Library Apartments on South Sycamore, pulled the male victim out of his bed and caused injury by choking him with his hand. Police say Romero also reportedly threatened to kill the victim.
