Most area counties remain at low transmission for COVID-19

 Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says there were no new COVID-19-related deaths in the week ending Thursday.  However, outbreaks at Marion County congregate care facilities remains an issue. Mallow reports five facilities are currently in outbreak status.  One facility has 58 positive cases, another 54, a third 30, a fourth 15 and the last facility has six positive cases.

The CDC Tracker reports Marin County remains at the low transmission level.  There were 26 new cases in the week ending Thursday.  That’s a 46 percent decline from the prior week.  There were two new hospitalizations.

Clinton, Jefferson, Washington, and Wayne Counties also remain at the low transmission level.  Clinton County had a 37-percent drop in cases to 56.  There were two new hospitalizations.  Jefferson County saw cases drop 13 percent to 21 new cases and three new hospitalizations. Washington County reported 21 new cases, a 91-percnet increase, with one new hospitalization.  Wayne County had 11 new cases, a 57-percent increase, and one new hospitalization.

Fayette and Clay County jumped from low to medium community infection.  Fayette County saw a 262-percent increases in cases to 56.  The county had one new hospitalization.   Clay County had eight new cases and three new hospitalizations last week.

There are 14 counties statewide at the medium level and just one at the high transmission level.  That is Richland County which includes Olney and Nobile.  In addition to 34 new cases, there were three hospitalizations.

Statewide, the Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting 10,234 new confirmed and possible cases and 62 new deaths.

As of Thursday night, there were 834 Illinoisans in the hospital with COVID-19.  Of those, 100 patients were in the ICU and 34 were on ventilators.
