Marion County Health Department Administrator Mellissa Mallow has announced another COVID-19 related death.
A man in his 70s who was positive for COVID-19 at the time of his death was a long term care resident and was vaccinated but not up to date. The death brings the total number of deaths since the pandemic began to 221.
Mallow also announced in her weekly report that there are now six Marion County congregate care facilities on outbreak status. The largest number of cases is 58. Another facility had 53 cases, a third 30 cases, one nine cases, and the final two had four cases.
All counties in South Central Illinois are now on the low community infection level even though cases during the past week were up in most area counties.
Marion County had 48 new cases in the week ending on Thursday, a 71 percent increase. There was one new hospitalization.
Clinton County had 60 new cases, a 58-percent increase, ad three new hospitalizations.
Jefferson County had 24 new cases, a nine-percent increase, and one new hospitalization.
Fayette County had 12 new cases, a 40-percent decline, with no new hospitalizations.
Clay County had nine new cases, a 125-percent increase, with one new hospitalization.
Wayne County had seven new cases, a 30-percent decline, and one new hospitalization.
Statewide, there were 10,137 new cases and 76 deaths in the week ending January 29th. As of Thursday night, 883 were reported to be in hospitals for treatment of COVID-19.
