Congressman Mike Bost.

Congressman Mike Bost says while the federal debt ceiling was reached earlier this month the country doesn’t face a crisis situation that would shut down much of the federal government until June.

Bost is optimistic House Republicans will be able to reach an agreement with President Biden by that time.

“We’ve got to come up with some wise spending reductions and/or shifting over other money that we have.  The cap is going to have to be raised, but from the House Republican side we are going to need some guarantee we are not going to go down the path like we did with the help of my Republican friends in the Senate, when you pass a spending bill with no restrictions and that same thing with Covid, the build back not so much better,  each one of these items we have got to stop that for the sake of our children and grand children and the sake of our nation because China is going to own our doubt.”

Bost, who now represents much of the area in Congress, made the comments during a recent trip to the area.

Bost downplayed the multiple votes to elect a house speaker, noting it was a rule change to add more transparency to a process that in the past has been done behind closed doors.  He notes after the house speaker was selected the house quickly moved forward on defunding additional IRS agents, providing medical care to those who survive botched abortions, and not selling the US oil reserves to anyone associated with China.
